Out With The Old

Part of the “cruising” lifestyle is getting rid of your material possessions and keeping it simple.  Living on a boat obviously gets rid of most of the possessions you have,  being a pack rat on a boat can end in crammed spaces and grumpy faces.  One thing we had yet to get rid of was my dad’s black Ford Ranger.  As roomy as this little three seater was, trading it for this old temporary beater made it look like heaven on wheels.  We had a blast driving through downtown Coronado and Chula Vista doing last minute provisioning while getting disapproving glances from all the people who didn’t like this old beauty.  While doing our provisioning in “The Orange Crush” I realized that the Shelter Island area of San Diego was completely taken over by people going south.  Every store we went into had cruisers in it, from Henry’s to Party City, everyone doing last minute stops for food and trying not to pull their hair out with all the planning that has to be done for this eleven day passage to Cabo.  This past week has been quite the experience to make anyone’s head spin, I just can’t wait to get cruising!
